We begin this week’s “RUFF TAILS” featuring a beautiful Dutch Shepherd named Sniper.
Sniper is a super energetic, protective, and loving family member. He absolutely loves going for jogs with his dad and playing with the kids in the backyard.

He can be a bit stubborn at times, but he’s always willing to learn and at the end of the day, he’s a big softie!!!
Welcome to Doggie Dialogue
We have been asked this question from many of our clients, and it is quite common for many dogs. K9’s will roll in fox poo for a variety of reasons, mostly for marking their territory to communicate with other dogs.

K9’s will roll in fox poo to mask their scent, mark their territory, communicate with the “pack” and of course sheer enjoyment. Dogs are drawn to fox poo as it has a potent, distinctive odour that can be intriguing to K9’s.
However, K9’s that roll in fox poo can be exposed to bacteria like roundworms, lungworms or parasites.

Speak to your vet if your K9 eats fox poo and discuss preventive measures like regular deworming.

We recommend to prevent your K9 from rolling in the fox poo is to keep them on a leash and use the command “leave it”. Remember to try to keep your walks engaging and interesting, this will help keep your K9 focused on you.
Always check your backyard garden for fox poo and remove it, in a timely manner. To help owners recognize fox poo will help them steer their dogs clear of it. Fox poo is recognizable by its dark, twisted appearance.

When your K9 gets into fox poo, the best way to clean-up your dog after they roll in it, is to first start by wiping them immediately with wipes, if you have any with you at the time,

however tomato ketchup is an effective home remedy for neutralizing the fox poo smell.
When in doubt, if you think your K9 has ingest fox poo, please always seek veterinarian advice.
